Leaf composting

I have been doing some readings about composting. It seems Japanese people do composting a bit difrently from western gardeners.

Most of the videos I see in Japanese use Bokashi for composting or hot composting using rice husks. For Bokashi, as it utilises anaerobic fermentation, leaves are compacted and Bokashi mixed and water showed on top of the leaves. Seems much easier than thinking about green and black balance in the western system.

So today, with the help of my daughter, we collected some leaves around the area and put the in the communal compost that I am looking after. I’m not using the same Japanese technique, but the leaves are mixed with some Bokashi compost, coffee ground that was kindly donated by our local coffee shop and added some diluted Bokashi tea. We are looking forward to see the result in several months time!
